TOWN OF PROVIDENCE

Miami, Florida | 1,000 acres

The Town of Providence is an integrated new town development, complete with residential, business, institutional, transit, educational, recreational, and employment centers.

This new community is proposed to be named "Providence."  The residential component will consist of approximately 5,748 development units, arrayed in a variety of housing types primarily in accordance with the County's Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) zoning district.   As also provided in the TND ordinance, the business and institutional uses will be integrated into the neighborhood patterns in a wide variety of shopfront and workshop uses.

Providence is also proposed to have a significant educational campus.  The education campus is designed around a "K-20" concept, integrating primary, secondary, and post-secondary education in an integrated and unified center in the heart of Providence.  As such, the educational campus is intended to include a university component.  This will afford a unique opportunity for a local university to partner with the Miami-Dade County School Board in joint educational and training initiatives in connection with the K-12 schools.  The educational campus is intended not only to meet the educational needs of the Providence residents but also intended to serve as an employment center and a geographic focus to the community.
